Seaside towns and ports
Visit Les Sables d'Olonnes or St Gilles Croix de Vie to stroll along the seafront and ports, enjoy superb restaurants and explore local attractions like the Ile Penotte in Les Sables.
Le Puy du Fou
Spend the day in this excellent theme park, enjoying its superb shows and displays of horsemanship and extraordinary birds of prey.
Local wine tour
Sample local wines from Brem-sur-Mer or Mareuil-sur-Lay. You can follow the 35km wine loop around Mareuil by car or bike. Pack up your picnic and make a day of it.
History and Culture
Discover the fascinating history of La Vendée. The Marais Poitevin (so-called Venise Verte) and the Abbaye Maillezais or the Chateaux of Richard the Lionheart and the Island of Noirmoutier. They are all an easy day trip.
Islands and Salt marsh
Much of La Vendée is low lying reclaimed land. Visit the salt marches of the Ile d'Olonnes to see the ancient craft of salt making. Equally famed for its islands, drive out along the Passage du Gois (check tide times) to Noirmoutier or take a day trip by ferry to Ile d'Yeu.
